Agustin Cárdenas was born in Cuba in 1927.  His ancestors came from Senegal and the Congo. In 1955 he moved to France where he lived until 1994. He also worked extensively in Carrara, Italy, where he explored the qualities of the wonderful marble found in this region. He has participated in over one hundred collective exhibitions, approximately thirty solo international expositions and has had significant retrospectives throughout Europe. Breton wrote the essays for two of the sculptor’s major exhibitions.  Cárdenas was honored Knight of the Arts and Letters by the French State and was awarded the William and Norma Copley Foundation Award. He returned to Cuba in 1994, where he passed away in February 2001.
